Fibre, Clothing, Textiles: Developing a more resilient and fairer post COVID-19 value chain governance structure for T+C
Overview
Summary
Governance structures for the global fibres, textiles and clothing value chain are changing post COVID-19. The research, will look post COVID-19, and will assess how the global T&C value chain has been changing and what governance structures might be required. This includes research and recommendations to allow for a more conducive VC that also addresses the concerns of the SME supplier base in developing countries, while at the same time making the VC more resilient. Research will look at the lessons learned from value chain changes and crisis operations of lead firms and their suppliers. It will elaborate recommendations on how a more accentuated element of fairness and fairer distribution of value could be assured between suppliers and lead firms, while building SME-friendly T&C value chain resilience against future shocks and crisis. The work will incorporate results from COVID-19 impact studies presently being carried out in Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco under GTEX/MENATEX as well as in Madagascar under UKTP. The project will culminate in a global industry stakeholder discussion and a final publication.
